Discipline:Statistics
(Discipline Code: 0714 )
Brief Introduction of Discipline
The Statistics is a discipline studying the quantitative law of random phenomenon and has a wide range of applications in various fields of logical, engineering, agriculture, medicine, economic management and the humanities and social sciences, resulting a number of new cross-disciplinary. The study of Statistics in Southeast University is quite distinctive and widely recognized by peers. The department of Statistics started recruiting graduate students since 1982, and was approved to offer Master's degrees in Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics in September 1990. In 2011, the State Council approved the right of doctor degree conferring in statistics discipline At present, the department of Statistics has 8 full professors, 5 associate professors and 5 young Ph.Ds. Since 2012, the department obtained 19 provincial or national projects funding, including 8 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 2 projects funded by the ministry of education, 4 projects funded by Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province. So far, we have published more than 100 SCI papers totally, got more than 6 awards above Provincial and ministerial level, published 6 monographs, one of them is published in the Springer, trained near 100 graduates with Master’s degree.
Training Objectives
Students will grasp Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, and Deng Xiaoping’s Theory, love the motherland, and abide by the laws and regulations. The students will enhance their capability of seeking truth from facts, rigorous learning, professional dedication, and the team spirit.
Students will grasp modern statistics theory and methods, algorithms and tools of statistical analysis and the application of technology in the fields of economy and finance, biomedical and other. Through the study, students will master a foreign language and statistical computing systems software and will have more in-depth theoretical knowledge and expertise in the various research fields. The master degree recipient will have the ability to engage in independent research work and capable of teaching statistical theory and applications.
